It doesn't matter which directory you start the patch from as it reads compiler's location from the registry. You might have some registry cleaner or something like that on your computer messing/removing this data from the registry and causing mentioned problem.

If you are using laptop with some power saving options turned on or even desktop computer with many USB devices, USB communication can get problematic causing programming errors you experienced. You may try to remove unnecessary USB devices from your computer while programming, and see if that helps...

When filling compiler registration form, provide as many details about your order as you can. Enter your new email address in the EMAIL field in registration form, and in the COMMENTS field write your old email address and details regarding email change.

If you have a lot of delays, this can slow down ICD. Instead of using Step Into or Step Over, you may try using Run to Cursor option and skip delays.
