PWRT (power up timer)

#1 Post by rshankle » 19 Dec 2008 02:43

Hi,

I have an application which I want to run the dsPIC30F4013 chip at 320Mhz (internal). I've can successfully do this, but when powering up sometimes it gets hung and I have to hit a reset button (MCLR to low) to get the chip functioning correctly.

Note, once the chip is up and running it is pretty solid, I am thinking that the power or external oscillator doesn't have time to become stable during power up before the chip starts working and this puts it in an unstable state.

Has anyone used the PWRT settings? Any suggestions? I see there are many options and would like more information.

thanks much!
Bob

Further information: The problem seems to be caused by my power supply. It has a current limiting feature that for a brief moment during startup of the circuit exceeds the current limit. Once I raised the limit the problem went away.

Hope this helps someone.

I would still like more information on the PWRT flags.

thanks,
Bob

Check out the relevant sections of the Family Reference Manual here:

However, since you are (waaaay) overclocking the device, all bets are off. You should really operate a device within its published specifications.
Why pay for overpriced toys when you can have
professional grade tools for FREE!!! :D :D :D
