Detect the presence or absence of objects nearby with the RPR-0720
Proximity 19 Click is a compact add-on board designed for accurate proximity sensing in a variety of applications. It features the RPR-0720, a digital optical proximity sensor from ROHM Semiconductor. This sensor integrates an infrared VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser) and an IC with an I2C interface.
KEY FEATURES:
- Precise proximity sensing: Accurately detect objects within an adjustable range of 1 to 15mm, ideal for various proximity-based applications
- Infrared VCSEL (IrVCSEL) technology: Employ an infrared light source (VCSEL) for precise and efficient object detection
- I2C interface: Communicate with the host MCU using the I2C communication protocol
- Ambient light canceling: Reduce the impact of ambient light on sensor readings, improving accuracy in various lighting conditions
- Programmable detection range: Fine-tuning of the sensor's detection zone (1-15mm) based on application requirements
- Interrupt system: Generate interrupt signals to the MCU upon detecting an object, enabling prompt responses
- Offset/Threshold adjustments: Provide options for adjusting the sensitivity threshold to optimize detection accuracy for specific use cases
APPLICATIONS:
- Provide presence detection for augmented reality (AR) or virtual reality (VR) applications, allowing for interactions based on hand movements or object proximity
- Trigger actions in smart home devices based on proximity detection, such as turning on lights when someone enters a room or activating smart speakers with hand gestures
