Unable to re-dock windows

#1 Post by Gaston06 » 06 Jun 2011 15:52

Hi, all,

I have just installed beta 4.8.
Some IDE problems are solved (for instance I am now able minimize the main window) but I am still unable to re-dock windows: if I un-dock a window, I cannot re-dock it as described in the help: the "guide diamond" appears, but nothing more when I move the pointer on it.

This is an old problem I am having with all MBP versions on three different PCs.

Thanks for any help.

Hi!

I've tried to reproduce your "docking windows" problem. However, I couldn't. Everything worked OK for me.
Please, provide screenshots and explain in more details when and how the docking problem occurs.
Thanks!
Best regards

Well, starting from the installation layout:
- I open an auxiliary window (library manager, routine list, code explorer, any other)
- I click the Pushpin Icon to release the window
- I seize the window by the title bar and drag it anywhere else on the screen.
OK, it is undocked. Now I want to dock it again:
- I seize the window by the title bar and move it on the screen,
- the diamond guide appear (in the center of the main window, not on sides),
- I drag the pointer on the diamond guide: nothing more appears (no outline),
- I release the mouse button: nothing happens.
However:
- I can dock a window inside an other window. For instance I can dock the routine list inside the library manager window. In this case guides appear on sides, also outlines, and it works as explained in the help. But it is not very useful.

Considering that I have this problem on all MBP versions, and on three different PCs, I think that:
- either I have not understood the procedure,
- or there is something else installed on MY PCs which is not compatible with MBP.

Best regards,

Please, see the attached screenshot. Note the docking arrow in the red rectangle.
If you put a cursor over it and release the mouse button, you'll be able to dock the window.

On my PCs, these "side" docking arrows appear as soon as I un-dock the window, and stay until I release the mouse button.
But once the mouse button is released, if I click on the window again, these "side" arrows do not appear any more: only the center "diamond" appears.
(I cannot make a screenshot: it gives a blue rectangle).
Thank you,

Yes, before you release the mouse button you have to place the cursor to the arrow (in the rectangle; see the screenshot from my previous post).

P.S.
If this doesn't help, please try to make some screenshots or record a video and send it to my email: slavisa.zlatanovic@mikroe.com

To be clear: I am not trying to move a docked window from a docking location to another docking location,

I am trying to dock a "floating" window.

Let us try with a new window, which is not docked after installation:

- I click view/macro editor
- the "macro" window appears, floating in the middle of the screen
- I seize it by the title bar and move it: the quad diamond arrows appear in the middle od the screen, not the side arrows. I cannot dock the window.

OK? If not I'll try to make a video.

Best regards

Hi!

Note that there must exist at least one other docked window (other than Editor Window) so you can dock your floating window.

P.S.
I've told you the same in the reply of your email.

I've somehow managed to get into a situation where I have all floating window and no docked windows so I can't re-dock anything!

I've no idea how I got into this state but I did manage to get out when I found that there was one docked window left on the system so somehow all but one of the windows has become floating, lucky there was one remaining I guess.

I seem to have the same problem with 6.0.1. It happens after a you have closed the program. I can redock the project settings and library manager but not the messages window. the only solution is to reinstall the program. The project manager disappears as well.

Hi,

Please, can you explain me a little bit more how I can reproduce this issue,
so if I manage to reproduce it it's easier to find source of the problem?

Best regards,
Marina

The problem is I cannot reproduce it. I cannot fix it so I delete whole program and re-install it.

Hi,

Did you manage to solve the problem by re-installing the compiler?

Best regards,
Marina
