Tabs in IDE showing loaded files

If I open several files (some source, .h, some just text - my 'info' files) and the combined file name lengths exceed that available in the IDE/editor window (sometimes using long file names), one or more tabs simply disappear - requiring 2 more mouse clicks to access that file again using the arrows at the top right of the editor window.

I would MUCH prefer that file names be abbreviated and the tab width narrowed as necessary. I could also live with an additional tab row ... SOMETHING that would allow me direct access to that/those additional file(s) already loaded and some indication that they *ARE* still loaded.
