My laptob doesn't support serial port RS232, please help me?

Hello all,
i have AVR programmer supports RS232 serial port interface.
i changed my pc with a new laptob without serial port, so How i can use my AVR progrmmer again.
could i buy USB to RS232 converter ? is it ok without any modefications in the software? please advice me.

you can just buy a usb-rs232 converter, you can buy them from 5 euro up to 15 euro, I bought mine on ebay from china.

and they work fine

be carefull with the 64 bit version of vista, there are some problems with the drivers for the usb-rs232 converter
