PWM click

#1 Post by oliverb » 10 Aug 2018 09:51

I was disappointed with the PWM click. This may not reflect the experiences of others, but I found that as supplied it had a long turn-off time that meant that with 5kHz PWM it couldn't deliver less than about 20%, and at 80% duty the output went to maximum. This appears to be due to the 20K resistance on U1 pin 7 being unable to turn M2 off quickly.

Currently I have modified mine using a diode and NPN transistor. The turn-on current flows through the diode and the turn-off current is boosted by the transistor. This gives it a rapid turn-off, and means that the output pulse length now closely matches the input pulse.

Incidentally the board is being used with a target system of our own, and not a development board.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the PWM Click,
I'm sure that other user will find it useful if they want to mod it as you have.

Kind regards,
Petar
