Searching for a Step/Dir Counter Example by Timers

Hello,
does anyone have an example to read STEP/Dir signals by timer.
It is about a CNC control, the computer outputs a step and a direction signal for each of the 5 axes.
I have to read these signals with 5 timers (Tim1,2,3,4,5) in counter mode (up/down).
I use the STM32F411 chip.
