Save?

#1 Post by čeh » 31 Oct 2011 14:36

Hello everyone!

I found a bug (i guess so) in GLCD Font Creator 1.2.0.0 - can't save on Windows 7 x64. Installed on a virtual XP, saves fine. Willing to aid in testing if necessary.

They should fix this as soon as possible.

Won't save you fonts in Windows 7 32 bit as well .... goes through the motions but does not write anything.

Found another bug ....

To get around the 'unable to save' issue in Windows 7 I installed the software onto an old laptop running XP - I then save my fonts from it to a nework share on my NAS and use them 'read only' style from the W7 PC (so in other words I make/edit on XP and just use W7 when programming).

The new 'bug' is that the [Export for TFT and new GLCD] button is greyed out whenver I run the software. To get it to re-enable I have to first 'create a font from scratch' and THEN load my font file (from the network).

A 'feature' to add could be to have the ##x## (font size) that is added to the end of the font name be optional - having to remeber to delete the 8x8 or 5x7 etc from the end of the const label is a pain...

Regards

Marc

I'm also still unable to save fonts on windows 7 x64. This should not be a big bug to solve.

For something that was reported 4 months ago that has the potential to waste such a lot of time you'd think a bug fix would have been produced by now. Yes I only just found the problem on Win7 32bit and realised I was not getting my new font saved.

This not saving is a right royal pain in the a***. Any chance of a fix sometime soon? Or give me the source code and I'll fix it myself.

Another problem is that if you want to add a character to a font you can't do it as the number of characters in the font is set at the beginning and then it's fixed.

This is not a "problem", this is how the software has been designed to work (for some special considerations I'l not expose here).

Instead of "problem", I may qualify that with "new feature request" ;)

This is just software that is not finished and only just usable and that's pushing it a bit. So is there likely to be a revised version that addresses at least the save issues any time soon? I know I shouldn't complain it's free but then after 6 months you'd think it would have been fixed.

Hi,

I know this is an annoying issue.
After a conversation with our developers, we agreed this should be done as soon as possible.

I will notify you when we fix this.

Salut,

I had the same problem on my windows7/64bit system. With my system, the fix is to use the xp compatibility mode:
- right-click on the executabel and select properties
- select tab "compatibility"
- check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:
and use "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)"

After that I was able to save a freshly created font and the file extention is linked to the Font Creator.

A comment to the developers of this tool: This is by far the best font creator I have seen :D It is right on the spot of what I have dreamed of as font managing program. And it comes for free! Many, many thanks - I bookmarked your pages right on top of my bokmark list and will check your other products. If they are of the quality fo that font creator, they must be worth the momney!

Ciao, Mathias

It does look like I am able to save the font if I use compatibility mode so perhaps that isn't such a problem.
I would like to be able to add characters to a saved font and I had hoped that if I managed to save a font that when it reloaded I would be given the option to add characters but reloading the saved font does not present that option. Is there a way around this?
