@Toley,
As I see it, there are two main specifications for a display: size and resolution. From the Winstar application note for their displays with the SSD1963 Controller:
WINSTAR_TFT Application Note
a-Si TFT for SSD1963 Controller
320xRGBx240 for 3.5”QVGA
480xRGBx272 for 4.3”WQVGA
320xRGBx240 for 5.7”QVGA
640xRGBx480 for 5.7”VGA
800xRGBx480 for 7.0”WVGA
Personally I would like to use the 3.5” and 5.7” which are both 320x240 resolution, this is the resolution Visual TFT currently supports.

Next release of Visual TFT
Re: Next release of Visual TFT
Thanks for the information Malcolm,
So the SSD1963 is the only choice for bigger screen. After a look at the datasheet the registers are very different from those of the HX8347-D so there is no chance for making them work with the actual Mikroe library.
But be sure of 1 thing, Mikroelektronika will not add the SSD1963 to VisualTFT if you buy the display from another source (like Winstar). What I have learned so far from Mikroe, is that they only make software enhancement if it makes them sell more hardware .
3.5" 320x240 LCD already exist with a HX8347A controller and it is perfectly compatible with VisualTFT after some minor modifications. I would be curious to look at a 5,7" 320x240 display, it must look very pixelized.Personally I would like to use the 3.5” and 5.7” which are both 320x240 resolution

Re: Next release of Visual TFT
Hi Toley,
mE could sell TFT-proto boards for 3.5" and 5.7" displays as TFTs have fine pitch connectors which are difficult to solder by hand. A voltage booster would be very useful for displays with an LED backlighting voltage of 15V to 21V.
They could also expand their range of MultiMedia Boards to include 3.5" and 5.7" displays.
Sure, mE is a business, they work really hard and they deserve to make a profit. What I have learned so far from Mikroe, is that they only make software enhancement if it makes them sell more hardware.

I have not seen one, but judging by the mono 320x240 displays I am using - yes. My thinking was Visual TFT currently supports 320x240 so no extra effort for mE.I would be curious to look at a 5,7" 320x240 display, it must look very pixelized.

where did You find 3.5" LCD with HX8347A controller ? the largest i found is 3.2"...Toley wrote:...3.5" 320x240 LCD already exist with a HX8347A controller and it is perfectly compatible with VisualTFT after some minor modifications...
Re: Next release of Visual TFT
Sorry my mistake it's 3.2"

Re: Next release of Visual TFT
hi Toley
When I said bigger LCD I mean 3.5 or 4 inch only.
I developed a product that I need a LCD with touch but bigger then 2.8 inch. I found a LCD with 3.2 inch. I would like 3.5 or max 4 inch.
I like to use VTFT from Mikro Eletronika because it is very simple to use, so would be very good if possible to have LCD with HX 8347-D or A but 3.5 or 4 inch of size.
Thank you for comment my question

Re: Next release of Visual TFT
I would and do wish for support for the SSD1963 for use with a 4.3 inch 480 x 272 TFT w/touch display. My application works on a 2.8" screen, but my customers (if any) would have to use a magnifing lens!

Re: Next release of Visual TFT
We have got some samples, 10 pcs, of various TFT controllers, altogether with the displays. In next few weeks we will evaluate them and adapt the best ones for implementation in Visual tools and in the compilers.
There are large ones too, very large.
More details will follow.

So, it seems that my faith in Mikroe is well placed!

Hi,
Yes, we will include the newly supported TFT controllers in the Visual TFT.
Regards,
Filip.

Re: Next release of Visual TFT
can't wait any more
when are we getting the next release, with large TFTs and new controllers?
hurry up plz
Re: Next release of Visual TFT
Nearly 3 years later:
I found just now that Mikroe's VTFT doesn't support bigger screens.
I'm also waiting for some new supported display controllers for bigger size displays.
It seemed VTFT was able to made a LCD design fast but now I see it is very limited. It seems now I will have to leave VTFT or at least try to create my own driver functions.

Hi,
The VTFT support bigger screens, like 5" on the mikromedia 5 for Tiva or 4,3" on mikromedia Plus for STM32/PIC32.

Filip.
