True. The optimum carrier frequency for motor control depends on the particular motor; too low, and the total harmonics are excessive (which results in winding heating), and too high, and you start getting the switching losses you describe. For a typical 50/60 hZ industrial motor, it's usually adjustable between 3 and 10 kHZ. Sometimes it also needs to be adjusted to mitigate RFI. If it's beyond audible, it's probably too high for most motors.
