mikromedia 7 for STM32F4F4

#1 Post by AndyIvan » 11 May 2015 05:25

Hi MikroE,

Congratulations on the new mikromedia 7 for STM32F4F4. This is truly a unique and remarkable product. My head is spinning with the project ideas possible with so many features.

Just a small comment on the screen back light. When I have replicated the LCD backlight driver circuit from the EVEconnect and EVEclick boards into my own PCB designs. I find that the L1 10uH inductor DC boost circuit to be too small and thus the LCD backlight to be too dull, even with the PWM signal to the EN pin set to 100%. I am using a 47uH inductor as per section 9.2.2.1 of the TPS61041 datasheet. This gives a much brighter and clearer picture on the LCD display. In the mikromedia 7 for STM32F4F4 demo video you so kindly made, it appears that the screen is far too dull, particularly as you have chosen darker colours for buttons and backgrounds. This may appear dull in the video due to the camera, but with this much larger screen I would expect you would need a larger L1 inducter as this screen would have more backlight LEDs and thus a greater current load.

Kind regards, Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Thank you very much for your suggestion, I will certainly forward it to Hardware Department so they can consider it.

Hi Andrew,

Did you mean 4.7uH?
As I can see from datasheet for TPS61041 10uH is recommended for high efficiency,
and 4.7uH is recommended for small solution size.

Regards,
Darko
