RA4M1 clicker USB connection and Debug LED

#1 Post by schm1ed » 02 Nov 2023 10:44

Hello,

I am using the RA4M1 clicker board and am trying to work through the quick start guide.
I am encountering the following problem:
When I use J-Flash Lite, it does not connect to the board, giving me the following error message:

Connecting to J-Link...
ERROR: Cannot connect to J-Link.
Done.

The guide says the following about the LED next to the USB port: "If J-Link drivers are installed on the PC and detected by the board, the LD4 (DBG) blinks yellow with a very small duty cycle that is barely noticeable. Otherwise, LD4 (DBG) blinks yellow prominently."
This makes me think that it should blink "prominently" when I connect the board to a PC (or even just a USB charger) without drivers installed. However, it never blinks at all, also with drivers installed. I tried different PCs, USB cables and a second board. DBG LED never blinks.

What can I try to be able to flash the board with a .hex file?

Thank you!

Hi,

these are the relevant steps of the J-flash windows:
Selecting Chip "R7FA4M1AB"

after hitting "erase chip" button

When I run J-flash without anything connected, it gives exactly the same results.
The reason why I think that the error is not on my side is that (besides double checking everything) the debug LED does not behave like I think it should.
I also noticed that the red LEDs flash at 2.5 Hz with 50% duty cicle. In the quickstart guide, it says 1 Hz.

Thank you for your help!

adding picture of board with red LEDs on due to files per post limit.

Red LEDs flash as desribed, PWR LED on permanently, DBG LED off permanently.

Hi,

Did you try using some other USB ports on your PC, or some other PC all together?

What OS are you using?

Regards,

Ivan.
