The UART I2C/SPI Click is an all-in-one solution which allows ESD-protected RS-232 connectivity to any embedded application while bridging the UART and I2C/SPI interfaces at the same time. It is equipped with the DE-9 connector, so it can easily be connected.
The UART I2C/SPI click offers features such as:
- true RS-232 interface
- auto hardware flow control using CTS an RTS
- auto software control by programmable Xon/Xoff characters
- Line-Break generation and detection
- programmable special character detection, and more
This Click board™ is an ideal solution to be used in a wide range of applications that require RS-232 support. These include battery powered hand-held and portable equipment, PDAs, palmtops, digital cameras, and other devices that still support the RS-232 standard, allowing them to communicate with any embedded application over the SPI or I2C interface, offering the ESD protection for the host MCU.
The RS-232 standard was introduced in ’60, as a serial interface between Data Terminal Equipment (DTE) and Data Communication Equipment (DCE). After undergoing several revisions, it is still I use, even 60 years after it has been first introduced. It gained popularity due to the fact that it was an integral part of personal computer motherboards for quite a long time, but also for its robustness. However, due to many inherent limitations, it is replaced by a much faster and more compact USB interface. Still, there are some devices that use RS-232 communication.
