Another click™ to talk about the weather with your MCU: HDC1000 click, measuring relative humidity (and temperature), carrying a sensor from Texas Instruments.
HDC1000 click measures relative humidity (from 0 to 100%) with a ±3% accuracy. The temperature is measured within a range from –20°C to 85°C with ±0.2°C accuracy.
The click communicates with the target board MCU through I2C lines. Two jumpers allow you to specify the slave address.
After SHT1x click, DHT22 click and HTU21D click, this is our fourth humidity measurement solution. Different options offer varying levels of precision, different communication lines, and different price points.
Whichever you choose, understanding how these humidity sensors work is a useful addition to any Embedded designer’s tool belt. It’s not just for HVAC systems or weather stations (although those are always popular projects). When you type “controlling humidity in” in Google’s search box, the autocomplete suggestion are: a greenhouse, the home, a garage, gun safe. Extending the search to Bing, Yahoo and DuckDuckGo we get wine cellars, snake cages, incubators, basement woodshops and so on. Interestingly enough, the Gun safe pops up on every search engine.
So, gun safe or weather station, that’s up to you, but in any case, start from the Libstock example (the example also calculates dew point). The product page has more information.
Yours sincerely,
