First announced last week, we can now confirm it officially. Flip & click can be programmed in Python, using Zerynth studio.
We rewamped the Flip & click webpage to address the change. In addition to being a two-sided board, Flip & click now has a split personality, too. Python is the third most popular language on GitHub and is consistently among the top 10 most requested language in job postings (according to wikipedia).
Embedded applications for Python are still a new field, but something like a Flip & click will allow it to gain traction. You can see the advantages in the first learn.mikroe.com article about the topic – multi-treaded applications, more concise code.
The Python version of the Flip & click actually has a real time operating system running on the chip, the Zerynth Virtual Machine (based on ChibiOS).
Of course, Arduino remains popular. There's a huge amount of code for it floating around the internet. Grabbing something existing and adjusting it is sometimes preferable to reinventing the wheel.
The refreshed Flip & click page has some new example projects, both for Arduino IDE and Zerynth. When ordering, you can choose between the Arduino or the Python version of the board (the hardware is exactly the same, the difference is only the firmware inside).
