WiFi 5 click carries a GainSpan GS1500M module. It’s 802.11 b/g/n compatible, has Wi-Fi PHY rates of up to 72.2 Mbps. But it’s also obsolete. We have these left over from some R&D so we are selling them at a discounted price. Quantities are limited. We don’t recommend it for professional use, but for hobbyists who want to venture into WiFi, it’s a good choice.
For transmitting data out in the ether, WiFi 5 click uses a PCB trace antenna but there is also an IPX connector available. An external antenna would maximize the signal range of the radio (typical RF output power is 14dBm (802.11b), 12dBm (802.11n).
For communicating with the target board MCU, WiFi 5 click uses a simple UART interface (TX, RX).
Our Firmware team wrote a demo example that scrapes some weather data from the OpenWeatherMaps and displays it on a TFT. A useful application since it also demonstrates how to properly parse an xml file to strip away redundant data. The example runs the protocol stack on the click itself rather than the host MCU, freeing it up for other tasks.
For schematics and other product data, go to the docs page. The example code shown in the learn article is also on Libstock. If it sounds interesting, make sure to buy on time because quantities are limited.
Yours sincerely,
