As the technology keeps improving, old Bluetooth standards keep falling out to make room for new, like with baby teeth. Or better yet, shark teeth (sharks continually shed their teeth, you know). To keep you on the cutting edge, we’re introducing BLE2 click, with Microchip’s RN4020 Bluetooth 4.1 module.
BLE2 click can be set up both as a client or a server. It supports 13 public profiles and 17 public services (as ascribed by the Bluetooth special interest group, SiG). You can also set up a custom profile to suit your specific requirements.
Thanks to MLDP support, two RN4020 Bluetooth modules make a powerful combination (like a pair of tiger canines, to keep up with the tooth comparison). MLDP stands for MicroChip Low-energy Data Profile, a profile that makes connecting two RN4020 modules to each other a snap.
The embedded PCB antenna gets us a range of up to about 30 meters (we tested it in closed space, you may be able to get a better range depending on the conditions).
Applications for Bluetooth Low Energy are numerous. Try putting BLE2 click under your pillow and you might just get a visit from the Internet of Things fairy.
