Beginner level

Best to start with the easiest level, like with everything else in life. This project shows how to create a BlueApp application. You will be able to connect to a BLE device and display the name in a browser.

Intermediate level

In the second post of this installment, you will learn how to start reading the accelerometer. The value will be updated in the application every second. Every part of the code is explained, so you’ll have no problem understanding it.

Full app

Here you will find the full application, Blueapp that interfaces with Hexiwear. The application uses angular for the front end.

Right after SPI Isolator click we have another click board™ for isolation — I2C Isolator 2 click. The click provides I2C lines and power isolation for slave devices. Protect your project from stray electrical currents.

I2C Isolator 2 click

I2C Isolator 2 click provides I2C lines and power isolation for slave devices. It carries the ADM3260 dual I2C isolator with an integrated DC-to-DC converter. The click supports up to 150 mW of isolated power conversion.

I2C Isolator 2 click is designed to run on either 3.3V or 5V power supply.

You will not find a Libstock page for this click, as the click does not require one.

Hexiwear has gotten more and more popular with time, but it has acquired rock star status as of late. It’s going on tour with Avnet. The NXP® Connected Devices Tour starts on May 2 in Austin, Texas.

If you decide to participate in this IoT development workshop you will receive an IoT Gateway with a 7” touch LCD and Hexiwear BLE Kit.

There are two available dates for you to register for:

  • On May 2 in Austin, Texas.
  • On May 3 in Orlando, Florida.

The workshop agenda includes things like creating your own IoT system, selecting the right processor for IoT development, and device to cloud technologies. You will also learn how to connect Hexiwear, what are its components and a bit about the necessary application protocols.

Each of these workshops is limited to 225 registrants so make sure you register in advance if you don’t want to miss it.

As you may have noticed all the u-blox modules we have on our click boards™ have rather lovely girl names – like NINA on the BLE3 click, and LEA for the GPS click, SARA for the 3G SARA click. This time the module is the LARA-R2, and the click that carries it is 4G LTE click. You must admit that it’s really nice sounding group.

4G LTE click

We offer two versions of this click board, one for the European market (4G LTE-E click) and one for the North America market (4G LTE-NA click).

Both click boards™ carry a cellular module from u-blox, the LARA-R2 series of LTE Cat 1. The module offers an integrated IP stack, and data rates of up to 10.3 Mb/s for download.

Small size, low power consumption, high-quality sound. What are we talking about this time? Mic click of course – the newest addition to the Audio and Voice click board™ range.

Mic click – picking up sound from any direction

Mic click carries the SPQ0410HR5H-B, a miniature, high-performance, low power, top port silicon microphone. The click is designed to run on a 3.3V power supply.

The SPQ0410HR5H-B is an omnidirectional microphone, meaning it can pick up sound equally from every direction. So, whichever way you speak to it, Mic click is going to record the signal with the same gain.

Maybe you are designing a project in which sound needs to be picked up equally from all directions. Hold it up, hold it down or to the side, it works the same. If you are looking for a microphone that will capture room sound, an audience, or the sound of passing traffic, an omnidirectional microphone will do that job perfectly.

Ever since our software team moved into their new office they have been super productive and enthusiastic. Therefore, this roadmap update for the AVR compilers comes flying on the wings of interior design change.

AVR Compilers Roadmap highlights

The new version of the AVR compilers (v 7.00) is scheduled to be released on May 11.

The implementation of Visual TFT in the compiler IDE has started a while back and is now well under way. Soon the AVR compilers will have a single platform for coding and designing, just like PIC, dsPIC, and FT90x compilers.

Our software team has added support for STMPE610 controllers. They updated the Bootloader application so that it has the automatic hardware recognition feature. External reference to all ADC libraries has been added as well.

ARM Compilers update

For the ARM compilers, we have implemented FreeRTOS, because of the enhancement poll on our Forum. This new version of the compiler will be released on June 1.

Wireless connectivity click boards™ are the theme of this week, in Microchip’s 50 in 50 campaign.

As you already know, Microchip has been adding one click per day to their quick-start library for MCC, the Code Configurator.

Wireless connectivity click boards™

Three of our WiFi clicks are featured this week: WiFi PLUS click, WiFi3 click, and WiFly click.

WiFly click carries the RN-131 LAN module from Microchip. It allows you to connect your devices to 802.11 b/g wireless networks and the preloaded firmware simplifies integration.

WiFi PLUS click also features a module from Microchip – the  MRF24WB0MA – 2.4GHz, IEEE std. 802.11, with an MCW1001 companion controller that has an on-board TCP/IP stack and 802.11 connection manager.

LoRa click and LoRa 2 click will allow you to communicate over long distances, over 15 km in rural and suburban settings.

That leaves us with NANO GPS click, and the RFid click carrying a  CR95HF 13.56 MHz contactless transceiver.

Clicker 2 for PIC18FK carries an 8-bit PIC18F67K40 microcontroller from Microchip offering up to 64 MHz operation with 16 MIPS, with a built-in USB-HID bootloader that makes it easy to program.

The board has a li-polymer battery connector, an ON/OFF switch and a micro USB connector, so it can work as a standalone device. The 1×26 connection pads lining the sides of the clicker 2 for PIC18FK allow you to add extra components to your design. That also makes the board compatible with mikromedia shields.

SPI or Serial Peripheral Interface is one of the most popular protocols for sending data in the embedded world. So chances are you are using SPI in one of your projects. You’ll be glad to know that we have made a click board™ for isolating it – SPI Isolator click.

SPI Isolator click

SPI Isolator click carries the ADuM4154 digital isolator optimized for a serial peripheral interface (SPI). The click offers up to 5kV of isolation.

A digital isolator like the SPI Isolator click is an alternative for the common optocoupler, better than it in terms of power consumption, speed, and size.

Digital isolators reduce noise and eliminate ground loops.
