Processor configuration settings

One thing I don't like about the project/processor configuration is how changing the PIC part number silently resets the configuration. Sometimes it is desirable to switch between different pinouts or rom sizes in the same family.
I realise the same configuration cannot always be applied to another PIC as features may be missing, so I'd like to see the settings reset to a "TODO" setting that would throw an error until a valid configuration was selected. That would avoid wasting time with a "brick" because you did not notice the configuration was reverted to an invalid state.
Better still would be a way of transferring configurations from PIC to PIC, say by listing all non-default settings and then matching them up with the options of the new PIC, and returning an error when a setting isn't possible.
