First impressions...

#1 Post by Sobrietytest » 03 Mar 2009 16:42

It doesn't need to look different, it needs to behave different. I can see that this is a work in progress but why are you screwing about with the GUI when it was great already?

I've already posted about the terminal in the MC forum but the wishlists are all about better technical updates rather than 'skins' and cosmetic changes. The new GUI is annoying and unintuitive, stick with the 8.2 GUI and fix the real issues.

It would have been a better experience if I had been able to open an 8.2 project, as this is not possible it is not realistic to compare the two compilers.

Project > Import Project

with this you can import project from old MC.

Yeah, obviously a lot of effort has been invested into nice appearance but much less into functionality...
I'm building a list of inconveniences/bugs/quirks introduced into the new IDE and it's growing by the minute  .

Please concentrate to compiler not to IDE.

The new GUI is a real distraction; there's a lot of Microsoft influence and that is not necessarily a good thing. The simplicity of the 8.2 interface is a real winner especially for those who are learning C. On the new version MikroE have tried to emulate the .NET strand theme which undermines the programming style of PIC's - there's nothing multithreaded about PIC's and the GUI needs to reflect that.

I maintain that they should stick with the original GUI and work on the technical aspects, function libraries and, of course, the Help files need to be updated.

The easiest way to become the best compiler is to have the best libraries and MikroE's need some work. This is where they should be spending money - not on a fancy new GUI which looks terrible.

The New GUI......

#7 Post by drumissimo » 07 Mar 2009 03:24

I must agree with Sobrietytest. The 8.2 GUI is great and really does not
need an overhaul. The Pro version enhancements appear to
be targeted at the look, and I am not interested in re-learning all
the widgets.
I'm all for better Help, support for new and future interfaces, Libraries, etc.
Thanks for asking!
