IRDA2 Communication

Hi,
I'm trying to Program using MikroC and PIC16F877A. I want to communicate between two boards using IRDA2. I've loaded both the transmit and receive programs and the sending works like it should but the LCD display of the receive flashes what looks like Japanese letters. I've tried slowing and speeding up the rates but nothing seems to correct the problem. I eventually want to send the temperature program using the DS1820 but can't do that until I receive properly!!
Does it matter if they are plugged into seperate computers?
