Overview

User-Friendly AVR board

AVRPLC16 v6 is a AVR based PLC system with 8 opto-inputs and 16 relays (for currents up to 16A).

USB 2.0 AVR Programmer On-Board

USB 2.0 AVR programmer on-board with simplified driver installation and usage.

GPS Enabled

GPS communication is available if Telit GM862-GPS and GPS antenna are placed on-board.

 

System can be placed in box allowing it to be used in moist and dusty environment. Design your AVR based control system very fast and easy.

Ethernet connectivity available

This board is Ethernet enabled via on-board ENC28J60 (Ethernet Module that uses SPI communication).

GSM/GPRS supported

Use GSM/GPRS communication via Telit GM862 GSM/GPRS module that can be placed on-board.

 

What's On Board

RS-232 communication

RS-232 communication is available via onboard MAX232 and screw terminal used for connecting.

DIP switches

System can be easily configured via marked DIP switches. Each DIP switch configures a part of the system.

3.3V Voltage Regulator

On-board 3.3V Voltage Regulator provides stable power supply for Serial Ethernet module.

 
RS485 communication

On-board ADM485 allows connecting of system into RS485 network. Screw terminal is used for connecting.

AD converter

Precise analog input measurement is done via MCP3204 (12-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter with SPI interface).

High efficiency Switching unit

High efficiency Switching unit enables stable power supply. Also there is a switch for turning on and off system.

 
Voltage reference

Configurable voltage reference is available, so user can choose between VCC (5V) or 4.096 V for ADC.

IDC10 connectors

All pins are connected to IDC10 connectors for further expansion and connecting to external circuits.

Antenna Holder

There are 2 Antenna holders on-board for connecting various types of GSM and GPS antennas.

 
Pull up/down port defining

Pull up or Pull down port defining is done via on-board jumpers. Each port has its own jumper.

Optocouplers

8 electrically isolated input lines with optocouplers (fast HP2630 optocouplers with Smitth trigger).

DIP switch

DIP switch is available on-board for easy separating port pins from Pull up or Pull down resistors.

 
USB 2.0 programmer with mikroICD support

There is very fast USB 2.0 AVR programmer on-board. There is no need for connecting external programmer.

JTAG and External programmer connector

There are connectors on-board for in-circuit debugging and programming with AVR ISP and JTAG.

GSM/GPRS Connector

Telit GM862 GSM/GPRS module can be connected to system via on-board GSM/GPRS Connector.

 
On-board microcontroller

System is controlled by replaceable ATMEGA32 microcontroller and it is connected to 8Mhz oscillator.

Speaker and microphone

Speaker and microphone connects via screw terminal to GSM/GPRS module audio peripherals.

16 relays on-board

External circuits can be controlled via 16 relays (for currents up to 16A). Each Relay have LED for optical signalization.

 
DS1307 RTC

Keep track of the current time using DS1307 - Real-Time Clock (RTC) with battery supply and I2C interface.

On-board ULN2803

On-board ULN2803 (High-current Darlington arrays) are used for driving output relays.

All pins are marked

All pins are marked on the back of the board. These marks provide information about connections.

 
MMC/SD Card Slot

MMC/SD memory cards can be placed in on-board MMC/SD Card Slot which is connected to microcontroller pins.

Power Supply Supervisor

On-board TL7705A monitors the power supply for undervoltage conditions at the SENSE input.

Mode Selection

User can choose between development and production mode using on-board jumpers.

 
GSM Module ENC28J60

AVRPLC16 v6 supports Telit GSM/GPRS modules: GM862-GPS, GM862-QUAD-PY and GM862-QUAD. These module can be easily mounted on-board via connector. Also they can be connected to GSM and GPS antennas.
Note: Telit GM862 GSM/GPRS modules, cables and antennas are sold separately.

Board is connected to Ethernet via on-board ENC28J60 (28-pin, 10BASE-T stand alone Ethernet Controller with an SPI interface).

 

On-Board USB 2.0 AVR Programmer

This AVR board has USB 2.0 AVR programmer called AVRprog2. This USB AVR programmer doesn't use boot loader or any similar way of programming. The whole AVR memory and all pins are available for your application. Aside from that, this programmer is fast and easy to use InSystem programmer. This AVR Programmer is driven and powered from a single USB port on your computer. No additional AC power adapter is needed.

The programmer is recognized by Windows, which simplifies driver installation. The programmer board is specifically designed for In-Circuit Serial Programming (ICSP). Also External Programmer and JTAG can be connected with this PLC system, which allows external in-circuit debugging and programming of on-board AVR microcontroller.

Drivers for the on-board programmer are Microsoft® Windows® XP, Windows® Vista and Windows® 7 certified. The Windows certificate is a proof that the programmer supports mentioned Windows operating systems and is immediately recognized by the system, which guarantees correct Plug and Play functionality. Driver certification provides users with a wide range of benefits such as stable functioning, the ability to install and delete drivers without rebooting and compatibility with future versions of Windows.

  • Simple demonstration of using AD Converter. AVR communicates with MCP3204 using SPI communication.
  • Simple demonstration on how to use the RS485 library.
  • Demonstration of reading optocoupler state and if input is logical zero it turns on the appropriate relay.
  • MMC/SD Test Example.
  • Introduction example that turns on relays with one second pause.
  • Example of receiving the SMS message in specific format and toggles the relay specified in the message.
  • Example on how to read/write date and time from/to DS1307 RTC (real-time clock).
  • Demonstration example that shows how to toggle relays from 1 to 15 over Ethernet.
  • Demonstration on how to use UART. Upon receiving data via RS232, MCU immediately sends it back to the sender.
  • Simple demonstration of the Telit GM862-GPS GPS Functions.

Included Compilers

This product is shipped with fully functional demo version of mikroC PRO for AVR, mikroBasic PRO for AVR and mikroPascal PRO for AVR compilers. In Demo version, hex output is limited to 2k of program words. These compilers comes with selected examples for easier prototype development.
