The MCP23S17 is the only 16-bit I/O expander that features SPI(tm) clock speeds up to 10 MHz for higher throughput applications. 16-bit remote bi-directional I/O port is connected to Character LCD decreasing the number of MCU pins needed for running Character LCD.
The standard LCD is probably the most widely used data visualization component. Normally, it can display two lines of 16 alphanumeric characters, each made up of 5x7 pixels.
